“There’s one vivid moment I’ll never forget. Toward the end of my long labor, things weren’t going so well. I had opted for an epidural to get some relief from the painful Pitocin contractions. I had been pushing for more than 3 hours, without success, because I couldn’t feel my body and my baby was sunny side up. The nurses were starting to call more and more people into the room and to whisper to one another, and I became terrified that they were getting ready to send me to the operating room. Chante had been by my side the entire time, holding one of my legs up and helping me to track contractions on the monitor to know when to breathe and to push. She was right by my shoulder, like a guardian angel, and I looked up into her face and told her how scared I was. I started crying and she just looked into my eyes and cried a little, too. She empathized with me in a deep way. In that moment, I could feel how connected we were and how much she cared about me and my baby. It’s like we’d gone through the labor together. I’ll never forget that feeling of being loved and supported by her.”

“Chante was the best!! At the appointments she showed me great exercises I could be doing to strengthen my pelvic floors. Not only that but we also went over how to breathe and we made great affirmation cards to put around the birth space reminding me that my body can do this. She was very helpful during the labor as well! Always had a cool washcloth for me. During contractions she used counter presser to help take off some the pain.”

“Meeting with you really helped me think about things that I hadn’t thought about. You helped me realize there is more to consider when giving birth and that I have a lot more options. Unfortunately, with him coming earlier than expected, at 35 weeks and 6 days I wasn’t able to get a birth plan all ready. Even though I wasn’t able to fully make or follow a birth plan this time the things I learned and remembered from meeting with you will help me as I make a birth plan for my future pregnancies.”

“Chante provided a lot of comfort in unique areas, too. She quickly learned about my Type 1 Diabetes and understood how to help me manage my blood sugars during labor. She brought me snacks when I needed them and helped me stay energized. She also helped to navigate tricky family issues, including acting as the go-between between me and really pushy family members who were trying to get into the delivery room uninvited.”
